Open Studios Day 6:Bubbly and nibbles!

Had a lovely day today with 25 visitors, most of whom were are friends and were lured by the bubbly and a good look at my new kitchen! (In fact people we know really well totally bypassed my work and rushed straight through to see if we finally had a functioning kitchen!)

I managed to get my raindrops sculpture up in the garden this morning and spent the day threading the raindrops back on whilst chatting to everyone. I also managed to apply the etching creme to the glass I painted with PVA resist yesterday…sadly my camera is still not cooperating and so no photos, better luck tomorrow I hope! There wasnt time for much else as we had lots of people come round today, which was wonderful, the sunshine even came out for us! Ulrika (the ceramicist in my gazebo!) also managed a full day, which when 36 weeks pregnant is no mean feat!

There is still a whole week of Open Studios to go, so plenty of time to come and say hello!

Home improvements, home coming and a new project for Open Studios

My family and I escaped the long over due building work on our house last week and travelled to Norfolk to meet my new niece for the first time and we had a lovely week in the sunshine with my family. I have not been back to my home county for over a year and I forget how much I love the dramatic wide sky’s of the flat countryside.

We have returned to a house of dust with no gas or hot water (in fact not even a kitchen sink!) but it will come together fast in the next couple of days. The finishing of the kitchen is down to me and over the Open Studios fortnight (3-18 September 2011) I will be making fused glass tiles to go on the walls and a stained glass panel especially for the specially made opening in the wall. Visitors to my studio can watch my progress with both projects and you can follow my daily progress here, as I will be posting daily during the event with photos of the process.

Devon Open Studios, past the half way point!

I am well into my second week of Devon Open Studios and nearly 50 people have been to visit, which is great. Its a bit strange not knowing when people are coming and then several people arriving at once, but that is part of the fun of it too!
I have also been able to get on with lots of work, having nearly finished my Scotland window and I have new commissions to get on with at the weekend, so lots of interesting processes to watch including a restoration.
My gazebo gallery has stood up to the weather so far and I have sold a few items too.
I am open until 6pm on Sunday 19th, so still a few days to come and visit!

I am a stained glass artist working in Exeter and a busy mum of 2; trying to carve a path through the tide of washing and children's toys that stands between me and making beautiful things.
