Stained Glass Fish Window for a Bathroom

stained glass window shoal of fishThis large panel has just been installed to further obscure a large bathroom winstained glass painted fish detaildow; I make lots of windows for bathrooms and toilets and it is a great place to put a stained glass window as it adds privacy and interest to small rooms.  At just over a metre square its a striking feature which is visible through the bathroom into the upstairs landing. The window has been fixed in front of the existing textured double glazed panel and really livens up the space. All the fish are made with iridescent water glass and have been hand painted and kiln fired. Autumnal inspiration

autumn leaves, acer

Autumn is such an inspirational season for me; I am fresh back to work after the summer holidays with the kids and I can concentrate on new ideas for the busy winter period.  This year I can’t stop looking at trees, there has been some fabulous colour on the trees this autumn! Luckily I have got to indulge my tree

Autumnal animals were my inspiration for the upcoming Gloss Gallery 20×20 Exhibition, an art exhibition and auction where 20% of the proceeds go to Hospiscare

yellow foxI also have lots of my smaller pieces in the Themla Hulbert Gallery Present Makers 2012 Exhibition, including my owls and some lovely new stained glass flower wreaths. I haven’t had a chance to go see the exhibition myself yet, but when I delivered my stuff there was some great work being dropped off by others, so well worth a visit!

I am juggling a lot of shows and exhibitions in the lead up to Christmas, but I also have a fabulous commission project which I am now starting, I am direct printing from Ivy leaves, which I will then acid etch………more of that another day, just a little photo of the Ivy being arranged on the glass

Lots of new glass designs and ideas

ImageToo many ideas too little time! That’s my world at the moment, but some of them have come to fruition and I am very pleased with my new bunting designs. I have made some fused glass bunting reminiscent of waves breaking on the beach. I have been experimenting with making my own recycled glass frit (ground up glass which is then fused in the kiln) this involves crushing waste glass into very small pieces (great fun with a hammer) and it is this ground glass that I have fused to create the texture on this bunting.

ImageI have also been working on some painted Imagestained glass bunting. These flags spell out various words (so far sea and sun) but there are more to come! They are just waiting their turn to go in the kiln!

There are new panels on my website, new Dartmoor panels yet to be shown to the world (I am waiting for frames) and I am desperate to start my new glass casting with recycled glass experiments, but I have to work out the logistics of baby sitting my kiln for a Image16 hour stretch before that can happen!

oh and I am working on a second panel in my new series inspired by my children, which I am very pleased with, so I am generally a busy buzy bee, just the way I like it!

I am a stained glass artist working in Exeter and a busy mum of 2; trying to carve a path through the tide of washing and children's toys that stands between me and making beautiful things.
