Another finished window!

A lovely couple from near Hereford came to pick up their finished panel today, they were on holiday in Devon for the weekend, so I had to get it done by lunchtime today!
I enjoyed making this 28×74 cm panel to replace the window in an internal hallway. The lady who commissioned the piece wanted the elements of an angel motif and peacock feathers. Her partners name is angel in German and her mothers maiden name was Peacock, This is what I came up with!
The panel has an etched glass face, acid etched feathers in the right bottom corner and uses a range of cathedral and water glass in rich blues and yellows. I think that this design has worked very well and I cant wait to see the photos of it when it is fitted into its window frame!

Now I can get straight on with the next commission, I have several commissions on my list at the moment, this time for a front door and of a seascape! Its coming into busy craft fair season and I am doing lots of fairs in the run up to Christmas, starting at the weekend with a full weekend of craft fairs!
I have a stall at the Contemporary Home Handmade Fair Saturday 30th October at Victory Hall, Exminster from 10 am -4 pm
Sunday 31st October I will be at the PrettyPoshLocal Craft Fair at the Pavilion, Exmouth from 10-4pm

A panel for my house and one for Exeter Cathedral!

I have recently finally finished a panel for our bedroom internal window (above the door) and I am very pleased with the finished design; which is of highly stylised dandelion clocks.  I acid etched some detail on to the circular clocks and I enjoyed using a limited palette of colours.  I used a gorgeous piece of opaque sage and cream glass,  mouth blown yellow glass, seeded clear glass and light blue cathedral.

All of our upstairs windows have these lights above the doors and I am slowly working my way around the house!

 

On the 25th November at Exeter Cathedral there is a performance of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and local contemporary artists have been invited to create a visual response to one of the pieces of the movement (sorry if the terminology is wrong I am not a classical buff!) to be exhibited along side the performance.

I have chosen The Bogatyr Gates (movement no 10). I initially just did some free sketches listening to the music and assigned different colours to the different phrases and instruments of the music. I decided to use the lines of musical staves as the background for my piece and I think I have managed to capture a sense of movement through the central yellow flashes of glass. I have used a wide range of glasses and textures in the piece, all of the glass used is recycled waste stained glass. I am looking forward to seeing everyone elses response to the music!

 

Lots of Angels!

I am currently working on a panel for a couple who have just moved house and want to make a special feature in their hallway. They are very fond of angels, so this is the theme I am working on. I have made 6 quick sketches and I will work whichever one they like best into a full cartoon to make the pattern from.
The window is long and thin, and not especially big, so the designs are quite simple and stylised to make the most impact. I intend to use vibrant Mediterranean blues and greens and have a small border to frame the panel and I hope to etch individual feather motifs into the border, as if they have just fluttered down from the angels wings.

Autumn and winter pieces

I have been busily working on some seasonal designs, from autumn leaves and dandelion clocks to winter scenes and tiny glass icicles for the Christmas tree, all of these will be finding their way into my Folksy shop over the next few days. I have included painted detail to the panels and the icicles are all made using recycled glass. Oh, and my autumn leaves are selling wonderfully at present.
